    Peggy Wood was an actress who founded her entertainment career success with roles in film. In 1917, she had her first leading stage role in "Maytime." In 1910, she made her professional singing debut at age 18 in the chorus of "Naughty Marietta." Wood's career in acting began with her roles in various films like "Handy Andy" (1934), "A Star Is Born" (1937) with Janet Gaynor and the Joan Bennett comedy "The Housekeeper's Daughter" (1939). She also appeared in the Ginger Rogers period drama "Magnificent Doll" (1946). She continued to act in productions like the Barbara Stanwyck comedy adaptation "The Bride Wore Boots" (1946) and "Dream Girl" (1948). Wood was most recently credited in "Welcome to Woop Woop" (1998). Wood continued to exercise her talent in the sixties through the nineties, taking on a mix of projects like "The Story of Ruth" with Stuart Whitman (1960). SOUND OF MUSIC 1965.Wood was married to John Van Alstyn Weaver and had one child. Wood passed away in March 1978 at the age of 86.
